This first sequel to the surprise horror hit is a virtual retread of the original, except that it introduces maniac icon Jason Voorhees (here played by Warrington Gillette) into the mayhem mix, eager to butcher another camp full of sex-starved counsellors. There are no real surprises, just plenty of methodical murders, with graphic impaling being the favourite. Steve Miner directs by the numbers because, in this mean-spirited slasher, it's the splatter that matters, not the dead-end cast.

Five years after the horrible bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake, new counselors roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence that proves that the grisly legend is real.
