Richard Gere and Winona Ryder are the incredibly unlikely couple in this unbelievable romance. He's the suave restaurateur who can have any babe he wants, she's the quirky hat designer half his age who also happens to be dying. Quite why the two fall for each other is never truly explored, and the whole thing is given a slightly creepy twist when the audience learns that he actually once had a thing for her mother. Directed like a Dairy Milk advert by Joan Chen (best known for appearing in front of the camera in Twin Peaks and The Last Emperor), this is only worth enduring for some nice picture-postcard scenes of Manhattan and for proof that the acting talent Winona Ryder displayed at the beginning of her career, in films such as Heathers, is now being wasted.

Will Keane, a Manhattan restaurateur, is content with his playboy lifestyle until he meets Charlotte Fielding, a free-spirited young woman. Together the pair pursue a passionate affair that forces them both to reevaluate what they want out of life, even as fate threatens to steal away their future.
