Fifteen years after his directorial career seemed to have ended ignominiously with Blame It on Rio, Stanley Donen made his TV-movie debut with this romantic drama. It's essentially a series of flashbacks tracing the correspondence between US senator Steven Weber and Laura Linney, his childhood friend who died without fulfilling her artistic ambitions. Donen directs with his usual style and geniality, but he overdoes the sentimentality.
