Director Nacho Vigalondo's low-tech Spanish sci-fi tale is an engaging doodle on that time-travel cliché of someone continually running into himself. That someone here is Karra Elejalde, whose voyeuristic activity puts him in a time loop where he must chase doppelgangers of himself in order to stabilise his universe - and save his wife's life. It's an audaciously plotted puzzle-box conceit that nevertheless does seem to make complete sense as the layers unfold. Vigalondo (who also plays a time-research scientist) directs with a subtle dexterity that keeps suspense high as the twists tie the brain into knots. The image of Elejalde's scissor-slashing alter ego, sporting a blood-stained, Invisible Man-style mask of bandages, is an iconic image from this superior adventure into time paradoxes.

A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.
