"Broadway's howling year-run comedy hit of the snooty society beauty who slipped and fell - IN LOVE!"
- Director: George Cukor
- Genre: Romance, Classics, Comedy,
- Studio: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
- Black & White | Duration: 130 Mins
|
Overview:
Fans of the musical remake High Society who haven't seen this classic, all-talking, no-dancing original might wish to remedy that. In order to reverse her reputation as "box-office poison" Katharine Hepburn shrewdly bought the rights to the Broadway play (written for her by Philip Barry) in which she had been a hit. With old pal George Cukor as director and a hand-picked cast, this film was a success. In it, her society girl is engaged to John Howard's executive dullard; her ex-husband Cary Grant turns up with information about an imminent press scandal, while a rival publication's reporter James Stewart finds his class-war cynicism melting away as he falls for Hepburn. There's more to it than that, but just sit back and enjoy romantic comedy at its most sublime.
