Keanu Reeves's first starring vehicle was understandably shelved for two years before its minuscule release. The future star of The Matrix shows no charisma as he stumbles through this After Hours for the adolescent crowd, playing a prom-bound teenager who retraces his steps after he wakes up in an alley with no car, no date and no memory of how he got there. The surreal touches are self-conscious and distracting and do not blend well with the movie's comic tone. Reeves's fumbling, meanwhile, proves more frustrating than amusing.
