In the USA George "Babe" Ruth achieved heroic status for helping drag baseball back to respectability after the 1919 White Sox Scandal. Of the several biopics of the famous slugger, this was the first, the most sentimental and least accurate in the omission of his legendary drinking, womanising and gluttony. Bendix does a reasonable impersonation of the burly player and it's always a pleasure to see Claire Trevor - here playing one of his long-suffering wives. There is intercut documentary footage of "Babe" in his heyday, but little else of note in an overlong and mawkish film.
