Rampaging movie mutants are, it seems, almost invariably the tragic residue of some megalomaniac's sinister, misfiring scheme. But in this expendable sci-fi horror, when a plane crashes on a remote Mexican island and the survivors are menaced by savage baboons, the banality of the revelation will dismay even those who have endured the formulaic set-up. Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is typically imposing as the brooding guide brought in to help, but the members of the supporting cast prove largely anonymous as they're picked off by primates that are obviously stunt performers in monkey suits.
