This overlong comedy drama is one of Clint Eastwood's rare mistakes. Lazily directed by his long-serving associate Buddy Van Horn, it strains for laughs as it follows Eastwood's bounty hunter on the trail of a runaway wife, played by Bernadette Peters. Along the way Eastwood has to contend with various mentally challenged white supremacists who are part of a counterfeiting ring, and, in the absence of an orangutan, light relief is provided by Peters's baby. The car looks great, even if it does hide a stash of drugs and another endless subplot, and if you blink you may miss the then unknown Jim Carrey.

A skip tracer helps out a bail-jumper after her child is kidnapped by a group of ethno-nationalist thugs, of which her husband is a member, going by the name of Birthright. The baby is taken as leverage because, although initially oblivious, she has their money!
