This unconventional satire of work relationships and office politics is one of the oddest studio comedies in years. The biggest surprise is that the quirky humour comes courtesy of Mike Judge, one of the creators of the far from subtle Beavis and Butt-head. Jennifer Aniston (as a waitress) and Gary Cole (as a dreary boss) are the familiar faces in an otherwise relatively unknown cast, and the offbeat jokes range from droll references to singer Michael Bolton and Superman III to swipes at restaurant etiquette and office technology. It's not for all tastes and the final third is disappointingly mundane compared to what's gone before.

A depressed white-collar worker tries hypnotherapy, only to find himself in a perpetual state of devil-may-care bliss that prompts him to start living by his own rules, and hatch a hapless attempt to embezzle money from his soul-killing employers.
