Love struggles across the social divide in this flimsy modern-day fairy tale, after young hotshot lawyer Ryan Merriman falls for a free-spirited working-class girl (Lacey Chabert) that he meets in a broken lift. The usual romantic ups and downs ensue forcing the "different-yet-the-same" pair to re-evaluate their lives and expectations. But while the message-laden decisions they reach are as simplistic and predictable as the happy ending that follows, seasoned director Bradford May's light touch keeps proceedings cute rather than cloying. Strong chemistry between the two leads adds to the movie's undemanding appeal, and there's delightful support from Patty McCormack as Merriman's matchmaking secretary.
