Tobe Hooper's little-seen and undervalued follow-up to his seminal Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a heavily stylised tale that incorporates the shock value of the EC horror comics of the 1950s. Neville Brand stars as the psychopathic proprietor of a rundown hotel who feeds guests to his pet crocodile. While the film is perhaps guilty of perpetuating the myth that all backwoods yokels are a couple of strings short of a banjo, the goofy plot and impressive production design win the day. Watch out for a pre-Freddy Krueger Robert Englund as a nauseous redneck.
