"It's That Way-Out Whopper Of A Funny Western...A She-Bang To End All She-Bangs!"

PG

  • Director: Elliot Silverstein
  • Genre: Western, Musical & Performing Arts, Classics, Comedy,
  • Studio: Harold Hecht Productions
  • Widescreen | Duration: 110 Mins

Overview:
In this entertaining comedy western, Jane Fonda's schoolteacher hires a gunman to avenge her murdered father. The man she hires is Kid Shelleen, a long-haired, buckskinned gunfighter played by Lee Marvin, who wakes up sozzled and gets worse by the minute. Even his horse is a drunkard, leaning against a barn for support. This showpiece role won an Oscar for Marvin, who also plays straight man to himself as Shelleen's psychopathic brother, a killer with a silver nose. Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye string along for a singalong in what is an amiable and literally hit-and-miss affair that paved the way for such films as Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles.
