First-time director Joe Lynch cuts straight to the chase in this solid sequel to 2003's hillbilly horror Wrong Turn. Laying out his gory intentions with a gruesomely outrageous opening, he delivers a quick-hit succession of shocks and kills, as generically written contestants in a survivalist-themed reality show fall victim to cannibal inbreds in the backwoods of West Virginia. There's none of the original's claustrophobic tension building, just inventively shot slaughter, accompanied by a self-conscious script full of put-downs, one-liners and in-jokes. A Rambo-esque Henry Rollins is particularly well cast as the TV programme's tough-as-nails, ex-marine host, while The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is plundered to fun, if unimaginative, effect with the skin-crawling fate of heroine Erica Leerhsen.

Retired military commander Colonel Dale Murphy hosts the simulated post-apocalyptic reality show where participants are challenged to survive a remote West Virginia wasteland. But the show turns into a nightmarish showdown when each realizes they are being hunted by an inbred family of cannibals determined to make them all dinner!
