In this imaginative electronic fantasy, computer genius Jeff Bridges enters cyberspace to prove himself the rightful inventor of stolen game patents. Director Steven Lisberger broke cinematic territory by inventing and using state-of-the-art digital graphics to depict a bizarre video netherworld. The "light cycle" race - where machines create solid walls of colour behind them as they speed around a grid - is the highlight of a complex but light-hearted adventure. It may seem somewhat dated these days, but it would probably be fair to credit this Disney movie with being the forerunner of the Toy Story movies.
