Overview:
This micro-budget British shocker blends horror and character study to create an absolutely convincing portrait of psychosis. Tony (Peter Ferdinando) is just another loner living anonymously in a scuzzy east London flat, but he harbours a dark secret. Driven by rage - and perhaps even sexual self-disgust - he's responsible for a series of brutal slayings on victims every bit as marginalised as himself. Echoing the Dennis Nilsen case and the grimy look of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Gerard Johnson's keenly observed debut isn't the last word in originality. However, Ferdinando's sterling performance is genuinely unsettling, as he switches in an instant from toe-curling awkwardness to deadly threat, and the film clearly has cult potential for those prepared to overlook the slightness of the plot. A chilling vignette, nonetheless.
