The spectre of Ally McBeal creator David E Kelley looms over this three-hanky tear-jerker, with Peter Gallagher as a widower haunted not only by the memory of his dead wife, but also by apparitions of her. Kelley wrote the screenplay and co-produced, while the deceased Gillian is played by his wife, Michelle Pfeiffer. Claire Danes plays the daughter Gallagher emotionally neglects in consequence, and Kathy Baker and Bruce Altman try to bring him to his senses during a celebration to mark what would have been his Gillian's 37th birthday. It's sentimental tosh, but it will no doubt appeal to those who enjoy Kelley's unique insights into the female psyche.

David loves his wife, Gillian. Unfortunately, she died two years ago. David deals with his grief by continuing his romance with Gillian during walks with her "ghost" on the beach at night. While David lives in the past, other family problems crop up in the present in the real world....
