If you get a sense of déjà vu watching this computer animated adventure, it's because you have indeed seen it all before. A magpie mix of Madagascar, Finding Nemo and even Ice Age, this tale of captive animals let loose in the wild is as derivative as they come. Yet while innovation is scarce, there's plenty of colour and humour for youngsters to enjoy, as Samson the New York Zoo lion (nicely voiced by Kiefer Sutherland) leads a mission to rescue his son, who's been mistakenly shipped to the jungle. Hindering as much as helping are a quick-witted giraffe (Janeane Garofalo), her hyperactive squirrel admirer (Jim Belushi), a simple-minded anaconda (Richard Kind) and, most amusingly, a grouchy koala (Eddie Izzard). It's their lively bickering, alongside lifelike visuals, that keeps the predictable narrative afloat, despite debut director Steve "Spaz" Williams diluting the overall fun with heavy-handed emotional moralising and a lame finale.
