Presumably because of Tinseltown prejudice against the television movie, there are perfectly decent actors who have practically no life beyond the small screen. Gary Cole and Craig T Nelson are a case in point. They have no trouble at all in bringing an emotional and psychological authenticity to their respective roles of a seriously injured biker who wants to die and a DJ who is his political, and personal, opposite. Issues of responsibility and freedom, life and death are woven in with some style.

Larry McAfee is paralyzed from the neck down following a motorcycle accident. He gradually loses the will to live, in the meantime befriending a talk radio DJ over the phone. The two meet each other and become friends, though Larry still wishes to end his life. The DJ reluctantly has a switch installed on Larry's life support that Larry can activate at any time (via his mouth) to end his life.
