Directed with wit and style by veteran George Marshall (Destry Rides Again), this wonderful Glenn Ford comedy western co-stars a splendidly raucous and unusually sympathetic Shirley MacLaine. The opening is a real humdinger and sets the style for the rest of the movie as Ford's milk-drinking sheep farmer (in cattle country!) picks a fight with local character Mickey Shaughnessy, proving that he's not a man to trifle with. Edgar Buchanan is particularly memorable, but The Naked Gun's Leslie Nielsen is as wan a second lead as ever. Still, it's Ford's movie, and a reminder that he was not only Hollywood's most popular star of this period, but one of America's finest and most eminently satisfying actors to watch.

A stranger in a Western cattle-town behaves with remarkable self-assurance, establishing himself as a man to be reckoned with. The reason appears with his stock: a herd of sheep, which he intends to graze on the range. The horrified inhabitants decide to run him out at all costs.
