Lamont Johnson, probably best known for the controversial Mariel Hemingway rape drama Lipstick, tackles the same subject, albeit in a less sensational manner, for this made-for-TV drama. Twin Peaks's Michael Ontkean plays a released rapist who decides to build a new life for himself in a small town, only to discover his past catching up with him. Ontkean is nicely cast against type and there's solid support from Pamela Reed as a sympathetic probation officer. Johnson's direction is a tad pedestrian and it takes an age to get going, but the potent subject matter always makes it watchable.
