If ever a story didn't need another retelling, it's Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's celebrated account of the Baskerville curse. Certainly this Canadian TV movie adds nothing new to the mystery of the monstrous mutt running riot on Dartmoor, despite the obvious care taken in achieving the atmosphere of both time and place. But as Sherlock Holmes, Matt Frewer struggles to emerge from the shadow of previous occupants of 221B Baker Street, while Kenneth Welsh makes little impression as Watson, despite his lengthy stint guarding imperilled baronet, Jason London. However, the main problem is Rodney Gibbons's pedestrian direction.
