"The West the way it really was!"

  • Director: Philip Kaufman
  • Genre: Western, Action & Adventure,
  • Studio: Universal Pictures
  • Subtitled | Duration: 110 Mins

Overview:
Yet another foray into American folk-hero territory - in this case the bank heist by the Jesse James gang. Directed by Philip Kaufman, who went on to make The Right Stuff, the film boasts Robert Duvall and Cliff Robertson in the leading roles of Jesse James and his cousin Cole Younger. Robertson's moody antiheroism is at one with the rain-soaked Northfield town, while Duvall's Jesse is as neurotically twitchy as his trigger finger - part of Kaufman's bid to shatter the myth surrounding the outlaw. The film lacks pace, but looks so purposefully authentic that you expect the brown-hued edges to curl like ancient photographs.
