Overview:
Too much talk, too little action and a miscast Robert Mitchum make this a disappointing screen adaptation of Hugh and Margaret Williams's West End hit. The plot rests on the romantic complications that ensue when American multimillionaire Mitchum takes a tour of English earl Cary Grant's stately home and falls for his wife, played by Deborah Kerr. Meanwhile, Jean Simmons makes a play for Grant. Director Stanley Donen, usually at home with soufflé-light comedy romance, fails to rescue this one from its all-too-evident stage origins, a leaden script and uncharacteristically flat performances from both Grant and Kerr.
