Overview:
Despite being beautifully animated (a flawless combination of old school hand-drawn animation and dazzling computer graphics), this wild mustang horse opera doesn't match the heart of classic Disney or the slick fun of modern digitaI efforts. Saddled with an overly moralistic and politically correct Old-West-on-the-verge-of-industrialisation story, this is strictly kids stuff with Matt Damon providing the first person narration (none of the animals talk, they just emote with expressive faces) and Bryan Adams crooning bland songs that pointlessly underline the action. From the untamed frontier setting used in An American Tail: Fievel Goes West to the archaic "cowboys and Indians" clichés, there's nothing new to get excited about here apart from a stunningly rendered train crash.
