This is a particularly silly Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movie, the one about him chasing her across the Atlantic. He's a Russian ballet dancer called Petrov, and there's a chorus of cardboard Ginger cut-outs at the finale, all a far cry from the divine sophistication of Top Hat and Swing Time. But, never mind: forget the daftness and enjoy the wonderful George and Ira Gershwin score, including the now-classic standards Beginner's Luck, They All Laughed, Let's Call the Whole Thing off and, especially, that melancholy joy They Can't Take That Away from Me.

Ballet star Petrov arranges to cross the Atlantic aboard the same ship as the dancer and musical star he's fallen for but barely knows. By the time the ocean liner reaches New York, a little white lie has churned through the rumour mill and turned into a hot gossip item—that the two celebrities are secretly married.
