Overview:
The Muscles from Brussels heads to the Balkans in this lean siege-thriller about a group of US personnel trapped inside an embassy during an Eastern European coup. Jean-Claude Van Damme is obviously getting a bit too old for the splits and high-kicks that made him famous; instead, there's plenty of gunplay here as his ex-Navy SEAL leads a small band of US marines who are vastly outnumbered. Explicitly referencing The Alamo, it's heavy on claustrophobic tension and internal division as Van Damme bangs heads with a lily-livered CIA mandarin (William Tapley) who wants to evacuate the staff by any means necessary. The martial artist's acting is as wooden as ever, but director Simon Fellows keeps the pacing brisk and the bullets flying.
