"Fear Cannot Be Contained"
- Director: Lawrence Gough
- Genre: Horror,
- Studio: Hoax Films
- Duration: 90 Mins
|
Overview:
One of three movies produced to celebrate Liverpool's 2008 EU City of Culture status, director Lawrence Gough's home-invasion horror is a smartly budgeted and often scary chiller. A timely brand of paranoia is brought to a nightmare scenario involving the contents of a shipwrecked storage container that causes havoc in a sleepy cul-de-sac community on the Wirral. Filmed on the old Brookside set, Gough's feature debut is extremely well cast. Neve McIntosh and Shaun Dooley give terrific performances as the mismatched blind-date couple dealing with an extraordinary situation right on their doorstep, and Gough confidently mines the atmosphere of authoritarian fear-mongering when a military unit arrives and orders everyone to stay indoors without explanation. McIntosh's attempts to locate her estranged daughter (Linzey Cocker) in the ensuing mayhem drives the main plot, which sustains its gory tension and intrigue right up to the climactic revelation.
