A 19th-century travelling merchant secretly commits a series of murders, until a woman who survives an encounter with him helps the police bring him to justice. At his trial, he claims in his defence to be a werewolf, leaving the authorities perplexed over whether his story is true, a lie, or if he is insane and believes he turns into a monster.
