This enjoyable horror comedy marked the directorial debut of long-time sci-fi scribe Dan O'Bannon, of Dark Star and Alien fame. This semi-sequel to George A Romero's 1968 cult classic Night of the Living Dead is like an EC comic come alive, in that it'll make you laugh and squirm - often at the same time. "They're back. They're hungry. And they're not vegetarian," blared the poster. O'Bannon cleverly makes the zombies - rather than the actors - the real stars of this movie and, unlike the Romero variety, these can speak, though they're mostly limited to spouting, "Brains, more brains!" The brain-eaters are the result of two bumbling workers who spill a missing army shipment of top-secret gas, which then contaminates the local cemetery where a gang of punks are holding a party. Later, after munching on some policemen, a zombie calls the local precinct and orders them to, "Send more cops!". A must for horror fans, this was followed by two sequels of varying quality.
