Overview:
This futuristic thriller is set in a world where hi-tech artificial organs are all the rage, but come at a deadly price. Fall behind on your repayments and a crack squad of repo men - essentially bailiffs-cum-surgeons - hunt you down and take back the replacement parts on the spot. Two of the best are Remy (Jude Law) and Jake (Forest Whitaker), but when the former is given a new heart, he begins to question the morality of The Union, the sinister corporation that employs him, and goes on the run - with his former partner in hot pursuit. Director Miguel Sapochnik sets the action in an inner-city dystopia that allows him to take some broad swipes at a runaway consumer culture and offer heavy-handed satire on the nature of healthcare and scientific progress. But the chase sequences never have enough momentum, Law is a fairly unconvincing renegade hero and there's too much emphasis on blood-soaked violence at the expense of both plot and character development.
