An offbeat, gentle romantic fantasy that deserved more exposure than it received in Britain, where it was only shown at a few cinemas. Alec Baldwin is the groom who begins to suspect something is up with new wife Meg Ryan, whose personality change may or may not be connected to the appearance of an elderly stranger at their wedding. This certainly isn't the usual romantic fare from Hollywood, but Norman René directs the proceedings with subtlety and summons up a charming, if slightly melancholic, air. The performances from Ryan and Baldwin are first rate, and there's excellent support from Sydney Walker, Kathy Bates, Patty Duke and Stanley Tucci.

A couple fall in love despite the girl's pessimistic outlook. As they struggle to come to terms with their relationship, something supernatural happens that tests it.
