A semi-fantasy biopic tracing the life and predictions of the most famous soothsayer in history, Michel de Notredame (Nostradamus is his Latinised name). Director Roger Christian paints the charismatic 16th-century rebel doctor as a person shaken by the relevance of his dreams, but whose reputation for accuracy eventually attracts the patronage of French queen Catherine de'Medici. Using bursts of newsreel footage depicting African famine, atomic bomb testing, re-creations of the Second World War and space travel to visualise Notredame's most important predictions, Christian's po-faced venture is a genuine oddity that's more prophet than loss.
