Overview:
The second instalment of the hugely successful Twilight series sees heroine Bella (Kristen Stewart) in a deep funk, which unfortunately sets the tone for the entire film. Her vampire beau Edward (Robert Pattinson) must leave town, and in his absence Bella begins riding motorbikes, but only because the danger allows her to see visions of her love - which is just as well for Pattinson's army of fans, who'll otherwise miss his presence for the greater part of the film. Taylor Lautner makes for a bland substitute as Jacob, Bella's hunky rebound guy, who also happens to be a werewolf. The pair have no chemistry so the question of whether they should stay together isn't just repetitious, it's redundant. The bike stunts and werewolf-versus-vampire scenes only drag out the wait until Edward reappears, along with a camp Michael Sheen as the vampire overlord who decides their fate. But most of the movie is concerned with the glum, lonely Bella, who just doesn't know what to do with herself - and it looks as though the film-makers were similarly stumped.
