Overview:
Actor Morgan Freeman (Driving Miss Daisy) produced this made-for-TV true historical drama illuminating a dark episode in American history. In 1944, a segregated unit of black seamen, who are poorly trained and ill-equipped, are forced by belittling, racist officers to load dangerous munitions at a navy base in California. After an explosion kills more than 300 men, 50 black sailors take a stand and refuse to work. Although conventionally told, the film is full of convincing period detail and powerfully conveys the anger of a group of men determined to seek justice. A compelling film that will you leave you outraged, yet satisfied.
