"Parents can be bloody murder."
- Director: Steven Sheil
- Genre: Horror, Thriller
- Studio: 2am Films
- Duration: 105 Mins
|
Overview:
This gruesome British horror about a husband-and-wife serial-killer team living in the shadow of Heathrow airport is a twisted family drama for those with very strong stomachs. Partly inspired by the notorious story of Fred and Rose West, it stars owl-faced character actor Perry Benson (Somers Town) as a suburban father whose net curtains cover his murderous hobbies. It begins with a Polish cleaning girl being led into Dad's clutches by dutiful daughter Birdie (Ainsley Howard). The nightmare that befalls her, however, isn't simply another exercise in torture porn, and writer/director Steven Sheil's micro-budget movie has plenty of wicked things to say about the dynamics of the supposedly normal family unit. But the severity of the violence limits its appeal, which is a shame since Mum & Dad is far more sophisticated and much, much smarter than many slasher flicks.
