Overview:
Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams make an unlikely but likeable team in Notting Hill director Roger Michell's lively, classy comedy. She's a perky TV producer saddled with a failing morning show, while he's the station's veteran but time-serving news anchor who's forced to front the detested programme. Like Broadcast News (1987), it's more wry than laugh-out-loud funny, with the race for ratings providing the impetus for drama. Michell's seamless, steady direction lets McAdams's energy shine through and allows Ford and his fellow news anchor Diane Keaton to craft beautifully timed comedic performances, including their ongoing feud regarding who says the final on-air "goodbye". The relationship between McAdams and fellow producer Patrick Wilson may all be a bit predictable, but watch out for Matt Malloy, who almost steals the whole show as an intense, nerdy weatherman.
