Inspired by a real-life mix-up that saw two mothers swap babies, the events depicted here wouldn't pass muster as fiction, especially when the contented housewife and the struggling single mother reach an unconventional compromise. Only the committed performances of Melissa Gilbert and Rosanna Arquette will keep you from switching off this shamelessly sentimental soap opera.
