Overview:
A strong cast, solid acting and an emotive true story put this earnest melodrama well above the usual made-for-TV fare. In the sort of unashamed tear-jerker that both engages and educates, an impassioned Harry Connick Jr plays the American oncologist whose war against breast cancer led to the development of a new life-saving drug treatment. But while Dr Slamon's research and the unjust lottery system of clinical trials that followed form the narrative's basis, it's the intricate interweaving of individual women's experiences of the disease (happy and sad) that gives the film its heart. Each of the actresses, from Regina King to Trudie Styler, delivers dignified and uplifting performances, resulting in a powerful picture that will strike a chord with many viewers.
