Overview:
Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson lend some weight to this otherwise unchallenging romantic comedy about an awkward midlife attraction. When New Yorker Harvey Shine (Hoffman) heads to London to attend the wedding of his estranged daughter, he strikes up an unexpected friendship with Kate Walker (Thompson), a cautious spinster burdened with a highly strung mother (Eileen Atkins). The misfortunes each has endured in their lives may carry too many pity points, but their encounter still manages to charm. This is a traditional, sweet and polite comedy without sex, nudity or any lewdness and is guaranteed not to offend. It's meant for hopeless romantics, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
