From Porky's to American Pie, US teen movies are usually replete with scenes of sexual embarrassment and excess. Refreshingly, this Oscar-winning comedy from director Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking) and screenwriter Diablo Cody takes the genre in a more grown-up direction in dealing with the subject of teenage pregnancy. As Juno MacGuff, Ellen Page delivers a wonderfully convincing performance as the sassy, clever teenager who finds herself "with child" and thus in way over her head. Having decided against an abortion, she embarks on a search for the perfect adoptive couple. This witty, warm film smartly reveals that, despite our heroine's impossibly snappy post-Dawson's Creek dialogue, she is just as anxious and confused as any girl in that situation would be. Superbad's Michael Cera co-stars as geeky father-to-be Paulie, while the talented supporting cast - including Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, JK Simmons and The West Wing's Allison Janney - ensures this is a teen comedy with class.
