This is one of the better pre-Top Gun action adventures, although it hardly deserved the long-running video franchise it grew into. Jason Gedrick plays the teenage flier who goes on a secret mission to rescue his father, a hostage in an unnamed Arab country ruled by nasty David Suchet. Louis Gossett Jr, reprising his gruff but tender Oscar-winning turn from An Officer and a Gentleman, is the sympathetic serviceman who breaks the rules to help him by stealing a couple of F-16s and teaching him to fly. It's utter tosh, of course, but the flying sequences are quite good.

When Doug's father, an Air Force Pilot, is shot down by MiGs belonging to a radical Middle Eastern state, no one seems able to get him out. Doug finds Chappy, an Air Force Colonel who is intrigued by the idea of sending in two fighters piloted by himself and Doug to rescue Doug's father after bombing the MiG base.
