Overview:
Few will remember the glossy French movie Les Choses de la Vie, of which this is an even glossier remake. Richard Gere plays a well-groomed architect, married to Sharon Stone and having an affair with journalist Lolita Davidovich. The usual ménage à trois, then, with designer labels, capped teeth, smart furniture and doting daughter, all droolingly shot and written like a TV soap. The trick is to give Gere's dilemma (Sharon or Lolita?) some resonance, so a stunningly staged car smash takes centre stage and takes the decision out of his hands. Impossible to film in Britain as we have roundabouts.
