Overview:
Released straight to DVD with little fanfare prior to 2010's like-themed Burke & Hare, this slight but surprisingly enjoyable offering details the ghoulish adventures of another pair of bumbling body snatchers. On the eve of his execution, Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan, of The Lord of the Rings and TV's Lost) confesses his dark past to a friar (Ron Perlman). Arthur's blackly comic exploits in the grave-robbing business alongside mentor Willie Grimes (Larry Fessenden) are never less than amusing, especially when the duo move into the supernatural trade, poaching vampires, zombies and things not of this world. A jaunty score and some nice Evil Dead-style cartoonish shocks temper the gory violence, while Fessenden makes the most of his roguish role - graduating with honours from the Captain Jack Sparrow finishing school. Glenn McQuaid's script could have done with more polish, but as editor and director of the production he not only demonstrates his creative talent but also that he can make a modest budget go a long way.
