A widowed matchmaker sets about finding a new wife for a grain merchant whose spouse has died. However, she has secretly fallen in love with the man herself, and hatches an elaborate plan to marry him. Musical set in late 19th-century New York, starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford and Marianne McAndrew, and featuring Louis Armstrong's performance of the title number.

Dolly Levi is a strong-willed matchmaker who travels to Yonkers, New York in order to see the miserly "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder. In doing so, she convinces his niece, his niece's intended, and Horace's two clerks to travel to New York City.
