"Too big for the world... So they staged it in the clouds... Too beautiful for words... So they set it to music!"
- Director: Thornton Freeland
- Genre: Musical & Performing Arts, Classics, Comedy,
- Studio: RKO Radio Pictures
- Subtitled | Black & White | Duration: 85 Mins
|
Overview:
When it was first shown, the stars of this film were glamorous Dolores Del Rio and dashing Gene Raymond, and, backed by perfect Depression-era deco sets and design and imaginative choreography, jolly splendid they are, too. But the real significance and most of the pleasure of this film today lies in the casting of two featured players (originally billed fourth and fifth) who, although they knew each other in their pre-Hollywood days in New York, had never danced together until this movie. And when they did, screen history was made. Their names were Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and the highlight here is the 18-minute-long Carioca. They made nine more films together and gave more pleasure to audiences than, arguably, any other partnership in movie history. Sit back and watch their evident pleasure at working with each other and marvel that their teaming turned out so well.
