If this cynical, misogynist teen comedy had been made by the adolescent boys it's aimed at, it would undoubtedly be less offensive. As it stands, the grown men behind this story about a pair of high-school jocks who ditch football practice to attend cheerleader camp should know better. Eric Christian Olsen and Nicholas D'Agosto (who look like younger versions of Nick Nolte and Owen Wilson) are the jocks - a tiresome double act who have bedded every girl in their school. Bored, they decide to join a co-ed cheerleading team and spend a fortnight at camp surrounded by pom-pom-shaking girls. Lacking the zip and sparkle of teen comedies like American Pie or Superbad, Fired Up! consists of nothing more than leering comments about the female cast's physical attributes and the odd homophobic gag - and that's definitely not worth leading a cheer for.
