"In the midst of war, one man vanished into the jungle, and emerged as king."
- Director: John Milius
- Genre: Drama, Action & Adventure,
- Studio: Orion Pictures
- Duration: 140 Mins
|
Overview:
Here's a weird tale, a sort of Apocalypse Now of the Second World War, as captain Nigel Havers (poorly cast) treks into Borneo's heart of darkness and discovers jungle "King" Nick Nolte, who's gone native to the strains of Basil Poledouris's score. Unsurprisingly, this militaristic nonsense is written and directed by John Milius, co-screenwriter of Apocalypse Now, who completely fails to uncover any significant resonance in his own material, as he did so superbly with The Wind and the Lion. Here, alas, he succeeds only in delivering one of the great clunkers of the 1980s, a would-be epic which helped to sink Vestron, the company that made it.
