In this contrived and predictable melodrama, Natasha Henstridge plays a New York fashion designer who ends up neck-deep in cliches when she returns to her family farm for her mother's funeral. Naturally, father/daughter conflict immediately erupts, exacerbated by the usual 'business is struggling' subplot. However, here the antagonism's taken to laughable levels after Henstridge's character adopts an allegedly useless herding-dog to help with the sheep. You don't need to have been watching to guess what follows, as the appropriately named 'Lucky' proves the solution to the clan's problems both financial and emotional and even gets to show off some ridiculous, Lassie-style heroism. Everything's all so convenient and reductive, with superficial sentimentality replacing genuine heart.
