Joel Schumacher's lamentable tear-jerker is a crass crossbreed of Love Story and Pretty Woman, and leaves one wishing that the terminally sick rich lad at the centre of this interminable nonsense had died even younger (or at least before the cameras arrived). Campbell Scott tries hard in a thankless role, made all the more difficult by the fact that Schumacher only has eyes for Julia Roberts as the blowsy girl from the wrong side of the tracks who answers Scott's advert for a carer. A must-see, if only to discover how low Hollywood can stoop.

After she discovers that her boyfriend has betrayed her, Hilary O'Neil is looking for a new start and a new job. She begins to work as a private nurse for a young man suffering from blood cancer. Slowly, they fall in love, but they always know their love cannot last because he is destined to die.
